Did you know that once your children are 18, you no longer have automatic access to their information, even though you may be paying for their education and health care?
We have all heard stories about both wonderful and not-so-wonderful things that can happen at college and elsewhere, such as medical issues, mental health crises, or academic problems.
There are four key documents you should have in place before your child sets off, in case of a medical or other emergency, so that you can manage the situation if that becomes necessary.
Meg Pauken, Pauken Legal Services, LLC, will walk you through possible situations that might arise, and how we can plan for them in advance.

Meg draws on over 20 years of experience as a lawyer to provide wise and compassionate advice, unique to each client’s personal and family situation. She started her career in a small firm, in general practice. Later she settled into family law, which included estate planning and probate, as well.
As a family law attorney, Meg focused on a collaborative practice model, working with families to negotiate the best possible resolution in difficult circumstances. Over time, her practice has shifted to the planning aspect of representing families. She helps her clients plan for the preservation and distribution of their assets, often through the use of trusts. She advises clients when a spouse or elderly family member is facing admission to a nursing home or long-term care facility, helping them navigate the often-confusing world of Medicaid eligibility and asset preservation.
