Dying is a topic that most people never want to discuss and yet, it will happen to all of us. The movement to face death differently and celebrate a life well lived or even cut short way to early started in the early 2000’s and really grew in the last 15 years.  We like to say that planning a death is similar to planning a birth. Both should be celebrated.  When you make a birthing plan you want to make sure all the right people are in the room, where do you want to have the baby, do you want medications etc. Planning for end of life can be similar. 

Many times people ask why do I  need an end of life doula, doesn’t hospice take care of all of that? The simple answer is, unfortunately NO. End of life doulas work in conjunction with hospice and provide additional services to the dying individual and their loved ones. There are many things to plan well before we die or are dying that can remove the emotional and financial stress that comes at such a difficult time.  The goal is to help you enjoy your final months, weeks and days with a dying loved one and make the most of your final time together.

About our speaker - Liz Shapiro:

Liz Shapiro is a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Ohio and a Certified Death Doula who has dedicated much of her work to supporting the geriatric community. She has walked alongside countless families, helping them navigate both the logistics and emotions of life’s most challenging transitions while creating space for meaningful, lasting memories.

Known for being a calm, grounding presence, Liz brings compassion and steadiness to every room she enters—supporting not only her clients, but their loved ones as well. In March 2024, she had the profound honor of guiding her own family through the passing of her stepfather, deepening her commitment to this work.

Whether through therapeutic massage, health and nutrition coaching, or end-of-life support, Liz is passionate about helping people feel cared for, supported, and at peace in every stage of life.
